Biomin^® P.E.P. is the phytogenic product line of BIOMIN. All active components in these products are carefully selected using a specific combination of essential oils and functional carriers.

Purpose

Maintaining normal digestive function is essential for the well-being and top performance of animals. Not only is the uptake and utilization of nutrients maintained when digestive upsets are avoided, there are fewer challenges on the immune system. Sub-optimal digestive function can lead to bacterial overgrowth and intestinal destabilization, such as scouring. Therefore, maintaining a stable digestive system is a key factor in protecting animals against enteric imbalances and securing innate performance.

Biomin^® P.E.P. is a specifically formulated palatant to support digestion and feed utilization.

Product

The Biomin^® P.E.P. line of products includes:

• Powdered products for adding to premixes used in complete feeds for poultry, swine, young ruminants, and fish and shrimp. These products are available in different concentrations.
• Powdered products for adding to milk replacers for calves, lambs, kids and piglets.
• Liquid formula for adding to drinking water, milk replacers or liquid feeds.
• Liquid formula for direct oral dosing of young piglets, calves, lambs and kids.

Biomin^® P.E.P. MGE

Biomin^® P.E.P. MGE was developed using a unique encapsulation process which ensures uniform size capsules of essential oils to enhance the ingredient bioavailability and, therefore, efficacy. This innovation was developed to overcome stability and odor issues inherent with powdered essential oil additives. In particular, supplementation of diets with Biomin^® P.E.P. MGE results in less odor, continuous consistent release, improved shelf life and, consequently, better performance.

• Supplementation with Biomin^® P.E.P. increased feed intake in lactating sows, enhanced piglet weaning weight and reduced weight loss of sows during the lactation period (Texas A&M University, USA).
• Biomin^® P.E.P., added to piglet weaning diets, reduced bacterial activity, entailing a minimized level of ammonia and biogenic amines in the large intestine of piglets (University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna).
• Supplementation of nursery pig diets with Biomin^® P.E.P. increased weight gain and improved feed conversion (Kansas State University, USA).
• Dietary supplementation with Biomin^® P.E.P. increased body weight and reduced feed conversion ratio by 5.6% in Cobb broilers (University of Athens, Greece).
• Adding Biomin^® P.E.P. to broiler diets stabilized feed intake of the birds at feed change. Furthermore, birds fed Biomin^® P.E.P. had improved weight gain (+5%) and feed conversion efficiency (+10%) at 35 days of age. These improvements were similar to those obtained by zinc bacitracin (University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa).

• Broilers fed Biomin^® P.E.P. had overall better performance in comparison with a negative control group in a 37-d experiment. Biomin^® P.E.P. significantly improved weight gain (+34 g) and feed conversion (-5 points in FCR) in the finishing period (Primex S.A.S., Languidic, France).
