Phytogenic Feed Additives and Ammonia Emissions - Thinking outside of the Box
Author: Competence Center Phytogenics
Greenhouse gas emissions are a public concern and animal agriculture is often blamed for its allegedly high contribution to these emissions on a global level. Within the swine industry the largest emissions concern is Ammonia (NH3), which is known for its negative impacts on the environment as well as animal and human health. Outside-the-box-thinking has resulted in new feeding concepts that can be used to alleviate this threat. Among several strategies, feed supplementation with plant-derived substances has shown substantial benefits in reducing ammonia emissions in pig production systems.
