In a rented warehouse in 1983 the "idea" of BIOMIN was born. It quickly developed into a company which is now one of the global players in the field of healthy animal nutrition.

Founding of BIOMIN in Austria - Erich and Margarete Erber and a sales man, Josef Kaiblinger started to operate the company in Pottenbrunn from a rented warehouse offering feed additives and premixes to the Austrian customers.
Already in the first months of BIOMIN’s existence a series of BIOMIN Forums “Fachgespräche” were conducted throughout Austria. In these seminars the new way of feed formulation with “Natürlich im Futter” was presented for the first time in this market. The first full probiotic premix product line was introduced to the market.
BIOMIN’s first exhibitions in Austria (Hollabrunn and Vienna) were conducted.
PRONIFER PRO – the first probiotic premix product line in the market was developed in cooperation with Dr. Egger a close friend of Erich Erber and owner of the first patents on probiotics at that time.
BIOLAC – An acidified milk replacer for piglets was developed. During a trip to Holland the idea was introduced and Erich Erber took it up and developed the first BIOMIN version in Austria which took the market by storm.
INTERPREMIX a premix and feed additive product company, carrying the first version of Antitox® Plus for inactivation of mycotoxins was acquired.
The first exports of Antitox® Plus to Asia were made to the Taiwanese distributor, Schweitzer Chemical Company, who developed the sales network covering Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Sales in Austria increased continuously based on new sales and admin staff joining the company. The first distributor for Styria, Fritz Jeitler was appointed.
ERBER incorporated PORCO BRYD as the first pig breeding company in Austria under license from PIC Germany. A GGP nucleus herd was stocked in Horn, Austria.
The superior production system of PIC with early weaning and a strict hygiene system became the “learning ground” for the BIOMIN staff and introduced these high performing breeds for the first time to Austria.
A Research contract with Prof. DDr. Josef Leibetseder for the development of a new generation of mycotoxin inactivation products was agreed and the work with the Veterinary University, Vienna began.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new “home” of BIOMIN was held in Herzogenburg.
Erich Erber conducted his first BIOMIN Forum in Asia – one of the first mycotoxin symposiums in Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia jointly organized with the distribution partner.
The opening ceremony of the new headquarters in Herzogenburg was a milestone for the new future of BIOMIN.
Ecostat® & Biotronic® product lines were launched internationally thereby enlarging the product portfolio of BIOMIN.
BIOMIN (INTERPREMIX) exhibition in Budapest took off into new territories after the fall of the iron curtain.
The patent application for Mycofix® Plus, as the second generation product for mycotoxin inactivation was made.
BIOMIN exhibits at the VIV Thailand and VIV Utrecht led to international recognition of the company and its products.
The INTERPREMIX Brand was merged with BIOMIN and all efforts focused on “The natural way” of BIOMIN.
BIOMIN Malaysia Sdn BhD, the first subsidiary of BIOMIN, was incorporated in Malaysia with our first JV-partner Steven Tan.
The first contacts to South America, in particular with Mexico, were established with Sergio Gonzalez of INUSA Mexico.
The first “Nutztierforum” BIOMIN magazine was published by Gerhard Galsterer.
An “In house” RESEARCH TEAM was formed of young and ambitious team members consisting of food and feed scientists, nutritionists and vets, headed by Eva Maria Horvath. Research has since become the cornerstone of BIOMIN.
BIOMIN Symposium in Asia marked the implementation of a new distribution network.
Divestment of PORCO BRYD marked the end to the pig breeding division.
Expansion of the research activities led to the addition of new laboratories operating at the IFA Tulln.
BIOMIN Vietnam was founded as a 100% foreign invested company to produce feed additives and premixes for this market, now with locations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
A regional headquarters for Asia was opened in Kuala Lumpur and the Erber family moved there to operate in this important area. Andreas Kern took the helm for BIOMIN Europe.
Cooperation with ROMER LABS Inc, USA, in the field of mycotoxin detection started. Laboratories for routine analyses of mycotoxins in Herzogenburg and in Singapore were established.
Incorporation of ERBER AG as the holding company for the fast growing group was completed.
Expansion of the production facilities in Stöttera took place to cope with the increased demand.
BIOMIN Singapore Pte Ltd as the new Asian regional headquarters in Singapore was established.
The ISO 9001 certification was awarded to BIOMIN.
Founding of BIOMIN USA, with headquarters in San Antonio, Texas as the regional headquarters for America was undertaken by Mike Eder.
Launch of the 3rd generation product of Mycofix® Plus. The Eubacterium BBSH 797 inactivates mycotoxins, due to biotransformation and is a completely “new to the world concept”.
1st World Distributor Meeting was held in Austria.
A new multi-storey complex at Herzogenburg, Austria was built to accommodate the growing staff of the ERBER GROUP.
Founding of BIOMIN Slovakia sro. and BIOMIN Deutschland GmbH (Germany).
Applied research agreement with the University of Kaposvar for BBSH trials was established.
Launch of BIOMINs patented “Natural Growth Promoter” product line was announced including:
Foundation of BIOMIN KFT (Hungary).
BIOMIN Shanghai Office was opened to tap into the fast growing Chinese market.
BIOMIN won the Austrian export prize as well as the Innovation prize for Biomin® C-EX endorsing the strength of the R+D within BIOMIN.
EU-CRAFT Project (a research sponsorship from the European Union) began.
BIOMIN’s production plant in Singapore began its operation. Feed additives and premixes were produced for the Asia-Pacific region.
Founding of BIOMIN Animal Nutrition UAB in Lithuania and BIOMIN Canada Inc.
Biomin® pHD was launched.
BIOMIN’s B-Active Team was founded.
In cooperation with BIOMIN and ROMER LABS the CD Laboratory for mycotoxin research began its research work at the IFA Tulln.
As another groundbreaking innovation in mycotoxin deactivation, the MTV strain which bio-transforms OCHRA and ZON was isolated by the team of Gerd Schatzmayr.

Founding of BIOMIN France sarl and BIOMIN Romania S.R.L.
First BIOMIN Academy was held in Herzogenburg as a new tool to transfer the know-how to the worldwide growing customer base.
First BIOMIN half marathon was held.
HACCP-certification as an additional quality assurance program was maintained.
BIOMIN organized the first World Nutrition Forum in Salzburg, Austria, as a “high level decision maker” symposium and talked about the future in animal nutrition.
