Day old chicks, due to their poorly developed gut microflora and immune system are very susceptible to pathogenic infections. Furthermore, antibiotic therapy and times of stress represent very critical phases for the intestinal microflora.
Competitive exclusion (CE) strategies and the use of specific probiotics have been shown to be an effective means of managing the composition of the microbial population.
The colonisation resistance of day old chicks against salmonella is increased, which s the most important bacterial contaminant transmitted by poultry.
With Biomin® C-EX & Biomin® IMBO BIOMIN has developed a product line that is unique in the world of feed additives.
These products are based on natural raw materials combining the beneficial effects of probiotics, prebiotics and immune stimulating substances. They are used particularly in the diets of young animals to establish floral health.
The symbiotic components help to establish and stabilise a beneficial gut microflora and to prevent pathogen colonisation and acidification in the gut.
The immune stimulating components enhance the innate immune system and thus improve the resistance to infections. Young animals are more resistant against invading pathogenic bacteria and thus to enteric disease.
Challenge trials with salmonella have shown that the addition of Biomin® C-EX and Biomin® IMBO to the young chick's diet makes the chick's gut more resistant to the invasion of salmonella.
In a trial which was carried out at the UNAM University, Mexico City the combined application of Biomin® C-EX and Biomin® IMBO resulted in a total reduction of Salmonella enteritidis in the caecum
