BIOMIN India launches Digestarom®

Digestarom® – a specifically-formulated phytogenic palatant that supports digestion and feed...

<link 198>Digestarom®
– the phytogenic product line of BIOMIN – was launched across India through a series of events hosted in Hyderabad, Panipat and Ooty. These events brought together close to 250 industry delegates. In addition to serving as key knowledge-transfer meetings, they also provided the opportunity to introduce <link 198>Digestarom®
, the poultry-specific phytogenic solution from BIOMIN that has been specifically formulated to support digestion and feed efficiency in poultry. With 30 years of experience in animal health and nutrition, and with more than 400 in vitro and in vivo trials conducted with <link 198>Digestarom®
, BIOMIN has grown its global network of collaborations with institutes to over 100. Several trials with major poultry producers in India have shown that <link 198>Digestarom®
significantly contributes to improvements in FCR, egg production, egg quality, nutrient sparing effect and reduction of ammonia.
BIOMIN kicked off the launch of
<link 23>®
at the poultry hub of India – Hyderabad on 16th April, hosting the event at the Novotel Airport Hotel. Leading industry figures from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat attended the event, and several independent experts in the field of poultry were invited to present on key issues challenging the industry.
The event was opened by Dr. Sujit Kulkarni, Sales Director of BIOMIN India, who warmly welcomed the delegates and introduced the global business activities of BIOMIN as well as the company’s India-specific focus.
This was followed by a presentation from Dr. Ramakoti Reddy, Principal Scientist of Avian Health Laboratory, PDP Hyderabad who highlighted gut immunity and the importance of the GI tract as key functions of immunity in poultry. Echoing that point, Ms. Ines Rodrigues, Technical Manager with BIOMIN Singapore, then presented on the role that phytogenics can play in improving the performance of poultry. Focusing on the benefits that have been proven with <link 198>Digestarom®
, Ms. Rodrigues explained how the defined mode of action of this specific phytogenic solution can improve poultry performance through exertion of combined aromatic and biological properties. “<link 198>Digestarom®
is able to up-regulate the transcription factor Nrf2, responsible for both anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activities within the body, thereby increasing nutrient digestibility and improving feed efficiency” explained Ms. Rodrigues. She then went on to highlight the nutrient-sparing effect of <link 198>Digestarom®
, supported by multiple trial data generated globally from BIOMIN, as well as the ability to reduce ammonia emissions which can have significant application potential with the increasing use of EC sheds within India.

“We are seeing very exciting opportunity for <link 198>Digestarom®
application within the Indian poultry industry” explained Dr. Sujit. “Despite the tough economic conditions being faced by the producers, we are seeing that application of <link 198>Digestarom®
is effective at improving feed efficiency, supporting an improved health status of the bird and even has the capability for nutrient sparing evaluation, further allowing offset of costs within the formulation exercise”.
The Hyderabad event came to an end with a Q&A session, and finally a special vote of thanks was given by Mr. Subramaniam, Director of Tara Enterprises and the exclusive distributor of BIOMIN for Andhra Pradesh. Further thanks was offered to the delegates by the local representatives of BIOMIN in Andhra Pradesh – Mr. Ramakrishna, Technical Sales Manager based in Hyderabad, and Mr. Krishna Reddy, Technical Sales Executive for Coastal AP region.

BIOMIN receives positive EFSA opinion for mycotoxin biotransformation

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has adopted a positive scientific opinion on the safety...

BIOMIN receives as the first company in the world a positive EFSA-opinion on mycotoxin biotransformation. In their scientific opinion, EFSA concluded that Biomin® BBSH 797 (part of the well-established <link 21>Mycofix® product line
) is not only safe for animals, humans and the environment, but also demonstrably efficacious in target species.
Following a request from the European Commission, the FEEDAP Panel acknowledged the product’s efficacy to reduce the epoxide group of trichothecenes to produce less toxic and thus, harmless metabolites. The Panel concluded that the evidence presented in ex vivo and in vivo studies confirms that this efficacy can be realised in animals when the additive is incorporated into trichothecene-contaminated diets.
Trichothecenes comprise the largest group of mycotoxins, the agriculturally most important thereof belonging to type A- (e.g.: T-2 toxin, diacetoxyscirpenol) or type B-trichothecenes (e.g.: deoxynivalenol, nivalenol). They are one of the major mycotoxins groups affecting not just Europe but worldwide. According to the latest
which analysed 4,023 samples worldwide, DON was found in 64 % of all samples with an average contamination of over 1000 pbb in all tested samples.
“In 2010, we were the first feed additive company to submit a dossier for an aflatoxin binder and the first to have a positive opinion by EFSA on the approval of a feed additive with mycotoxin-counteracting properties. The dossier for the trichothecene-biotransforming product Biomin® BBSH 797 was submitted only a few months after EFSA officially published their guidance document in 2012.” said Dian Schatzmayr, Director of Competence Center Mycotoxins within the BIOMIN Research Center.
“The fact that the evaluation process was completed in record time attests once again to the significant level of R&D investment and BIOMIN’s leadership in mycotoxin risk management.” continues Schatzmayr.

BIOMIN participates at VIV Asia 2013

Held over three days from March 13-15 at the Bangkok International Trade and Convention Center...

Among the 770 exhibitors that participated this year was the impressive and distinguished BIOMIN booth. Situated in Hall 106 and located at F010, the booth this year comprised an area of 120 square metres, the largest ever exhibition space BIOMIN has had at VIV Asia to date. This was in line with the launch of BIOMIN’s latest technology in mycotoxin deactivation, the new and patented

<link 258>®
– a purified enzyme that biotransforms fumonisins into non-toxic metabolites in the gastrointestinal tract of animals; and also to accomodate the increasing number of visitors to the booth at this biennial event since BIOMIN started exhibiting at VIV Asia 1991 some 22 years ago.

Jan Vanbrabant (CEO, BIOMIN Asia Pacific), Phuong Nguyen Quang (COO, BIOMIN Vietnam) and Hai Nguyen Thanh (Technical Manager, BIOMIN Vietnam) with a Vietnamese customer, Chung Kim (Kim Long Feedmill and Pig Farm), accompanied by our charming BIOMIN hostesses at the booth.

This year, our booth was fully-packed with customers, distributors and visitors alike. All were curious to find out more about the cutting-edge technology that comes with the new

<link 258>®
and what was in store for the <link 21>Mycofix®
range of products with this latest addition of <link 21>Mycofix®
Focus to the existing product line. Many visitors had the chance to have a first-hand sensory experience with phytogenics at the <link 198>Digestarom®
Smell and Guess station. Some took the opportunity to learn more about the unique aspects of our <link 22>Biotronic®
range of acidifiers that make them different from other common acidifiers, while others discovered how synbiotics <link 24>PoultryStar®
and probiotics <link 114>AquaStar®
work and why these microbials continue to lead in their respective markets. Most discovered that all these products, together with others such as <link 133>Biomin® Phytase
, Biomin® HEPAprotect Aqua and Biomin® Premixes, are backed by strong BIOMIN Research & Development that help increase performance and profits for the producer while contributing to a greener environment.
Many discussions took place at the booth – that varied from serious discussions over a cup of coffee to the more light-hearted ones over a game of table football (or better known as foosball) with our two charming BIOMIN hostesses. Besides foosball, which proved to be a big hit at the booth, our Austrian wine tasting session held at 4:00pm on the first and second days of the exhibition also drew strong crowds, eager to appreciate the fine, exquisite Austrian red and whites.

Pedro Encarnação (Business Development Director – Aqua) teams up with a customer to pit their combined skills against the professionals, in an attempt to score against our two BIOMIN hostesses.

In terms of technical presentations, Dr. Guan Shu presented on “The occurrence of mycotoxins in Asia Pacific” at the Mycotoxins and Salmonella 2013 Seminar organised by Positive Action Publications Ltd. a day prior to the opening of VIV Asia 2013 at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel in Bangkok. BIOMIN also participated in the VIV Animal Health Summit Asia held at BITEC in conjuction with the exhibition, where Inês Rodrigues presented on “Phytogenic feed additives - A holistic approach to reducing antibiotics in feed” on the second day of the exhibition.
On the evening of the same day, BIOMIN organised the exclusive “2nd BIOMIN Muay Thai Night” at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, which will be closed down next year, to be replaced by a new state-of-the-art venue in northern Bangkok. Our customers and business partners were treated to a gala dinner of delectable gourmet cuisine and received their last opportunity to experience true Muay Thai live action at the historical arena, which has become the symbol of modern Muay Thai. The event was hosted by Jan Vanbrabant, CEO of BIOMIN Asia Pacific and accompanied by his co-host, the lovely Miss Thailand Universe 2006, Miss Charm Osathanond.
After being thrilled and kept at the edge of their seats all night, our guests were treated to yet another surprise, where they were taken through the streets of Bangkok on BIOMIN flag-bearing tuk-tuks in a long trail led by police motorcycle outriders from the Thai Traffic Police.

By far, VIV Asia is one of the best platforms to gather new information on industry development and innovations in the Asia Pacific region for feed and livestock industry players. For BIOMIN, it was a successful event and we are already looking forward to our next major regional event, which will be the FIAAP/VICTAM/GRAPAS Asia 2014 also scheduled to be held in Bangkok from April 8-11 next year.

The 6th edition of the European Equine Health & Nutrition Congress (EEHNC) was hosted by Ghent...

As one of the main presentations of the congress Prof. Fink-Gremmels from the University of Utrecht mentioned in her presentation on mycotoxins in equine nutrition that these topics play a substantial role in the outbreak of many diseases both as single cause and even more important as co-factor. In her presentation she mentioned Prof. Rudi Krska’s work of multi-toxin-analyses as an important part to understand mycotoxins in a better way.
BIOMIN was represented by Nicole Reisinger who participated in the poster session of the congress. Her topic was about the ex vivo-laminitis model BIOMIN has developed for equines during the last years. With the actual findings how mycotoxins influence the development of laminitis we see that we could solve the next puzzle bit to understand this disease which has a tremendous impact on the horse industry. With the interest seen in our R&D work at the equine congress BIOMIN can be sure that our efforts in this field will show clear results in the future.

BIOMIN launches FUMzyme® - the first purified enzyme against fumonisins

FUMzyme® - the first purified enzyme that biotransforms fumonisins into non-toxic metabolites –...

March 04, 2013 -- Taking advantage of its 30 years of experience in mycotoxin risk management and its know-how in biotransformation, BIOMIN will introduce during VIV Asia 2013

®, a completely new approach in counteracting fumonisins in animal production.

® is a purified enzyme that biotransforms fumonisins into non-toxic metabolites in the gastrointestinal tract of animals. The detoxifying activity of this revolutionary enzyme was confirmed in numerous in vitro and in vivo experiments.
“Fumonisins elicit a toxic effect on the sphingolipid metabolism. The ratio of the sphingoid bases sphinganine and sphingosine in serum serves as an indicator (biomarker) of the effects of fumonisin on animals” says Ursula Hofstetter, director of the Competence Center Mycotoxins at BIOMIN. “For the first time, using the sphinganine/sphingosine ratio (Sa/So) as a biomarker, the detoxification of fumonisins by

® can be clearly demonstrated” continues Hofstetter.
Climate change and the international transportation of raw materials are only two of several factors that increase fumonisin contamination all over the world. Recent findings have revealed natural fumonisin contamination levels of 77 ppm in finished feed. Pig and poultry farmers are not only suffering from unidentified losses in performance and immunosuppressive effects, but also species-specific clinical problems. So far, the only existing possibility of alleviating fumonisin intoxication was to bind fumonisins by adsorptive substances. Unfortunately, due to the molecular structure of these mycotoxins and the pH dependence of the reaction, it can only be insuffiently adsorbed in the gastrointestinal tract.

®, the result of years of intensive research at the BIOMIN Research Center in Tulln, enables BIOMIN to keep the lead in the development of revolutionary strategies to counteract mycotoxins.
