Feed & Water Hygiene

Hygiene is a concept that involves many parameters important to ensuring successful animal production. Feed and water are commonly contaminated with bacteria, including potential pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella spp.

Acidification and an appropriate carrier will allow progressive corrections to the pH of the fore and hind gut. A low and stable pH improves the ability of the gut to fight pathogens and favor the growth of beneficial microflora that aid digestion and increase nutrient adsorption. This second aspect is especially true in sows.

For piglets whose stomach pH have yet to stabilize and digestive tracts are still immature, acidification is the basis for enhancing the stomach barrier against pathogens introduced via alimentary tracts.
