Calf Rearing

Holstein calf and cow

Rearing management is often underestimated. However, it is widely recognized that calf performance today has a great impact on future milk yield. This applies to (goat) kids and lambs too.

Good rearing practices start from the moment the calf is born. The main goal in the first days of life is to keep the calf healthy. Even with optimal colostrum management, diarrhea can still occur due to a variety of reasons. Biotronic® Top3 and Digestarom® are excellent additives for calves that work to improve early intestinal health.

Trials show that by using the BIOMIN concept of rearing animals mortality and medication costs are reduced. Feed intake and feed efficiency are improved, resulting in better growth rates. According to Soberon et al. 1kg of pre-weaning average daily gain translates into a 850kg increase in milk yield over the first lactation alone (P<0.01, n=1,244).
