BIOMIN Mycotoxin Survey in US and Canada: January 2021 Update

Our Jan 2021 update from the annual Biomin® PROcheck mycotoxin survey comprising 259 samples of corn and corn by-products from the US and Canada is here.

US and Canada Reports

Each sample was tested for 6 major mycotoxin groups of:

A-Trichothecenes (A-Trich): T-2, HT-2, Neosolaniol, Diacetoxyscirpenol
B-Trichothecenes (B-Trich): Deoxynivalenol (DON/Vomitoxin), Acetyl-deoxynivalenol, Nivalenol, Fusarenon X
Fumonisins (FUM): B1, B2, B3
Zearalenone (ZEN)
Aflatoxins (Afla): B1, B2, G1, and G2
Ocharatoxin A (OTA)

BIOMIN Mycotoxin Survey in US and Canada: January 2021

Summary

    The survey results represent samples sent in for surveillance testing only and does not include any sample submitted following clinical signs. In the report we discuss preliminary trends of each of these feed ingredients regarding mycotoxin prevalence and contamination levels. 

    USA Corn

    • 180 corn samples were tested
    • 83% of samples were positive for at least one mycotoxin vs. 96% in 2019
    • 47% of samples had more than one mycotoxin, vs 71% in 2019

    • Overall, the mycotoxin contamination in 2020 corn seems relatively lower in comparison to 2019 corn.

    USA Corn By-Products

    • 61 corn by-product samples (DDGs and corn gluten meal) were tested
    • 100% of samples were positive for at least one mycotoxin vs. 99% in 2019
    • 98% of samples had more than one mycotoxin, vs 99% in 2018

    Canadian Corn

    • 18 corn samples were tested
    • 88% of samples were positive for at least one mycotoxin vs. 96% in 2019
    • 50% of samples had more than one mycotoxin, vs 71% in 2019
